Writerman for hire

Writerman got his start working in advertising and writing for the Web for top agencies such as DDB, Cossette and Blast Radius and well-known brands like the Yellow Pages, the CBC, Nike, and everybody’s favourite food: Kraft Dinner. I’ve collected a number of industry awards, but the one my mom brags about the most is the time I was named one of Canada’s top copywriters by Strategy Magazine.

If your project requires ideas, words or good-old-fashioned creativity like mom used to make, then Writerman Industries can help. From ad campaigns to websites, radio spots to brochures, promotional DVDs to games, headlines to taglines and everything in-between, the Writerman does everything a writer can.

adventure a-go-go game

Not only did I have a lot of fun working on this project with the good people at shift control media, but I also learned a stupendous number of useless facts as I wrote hundreds of trivia questions about America’s highways, byways and roadside attractions.

Project: Online game

Client: aloft hotels (owned by “W Hotels”)

Play the game!

This link launches the aloft hotels site. Click on “adventure a-go-go” in the menu bar at the bottom of the page to start the game.

And, because I couldn’t resist, underneath the image below is a sample question from the “Los Angeles to Portland” route to test your road trip trivia savvy.

Silicon Valley — Question 5

Micro or metal? Three of the following are tech companies from Silicon Valley. One is a Swedish Death Metal band. Find the rock and roll.

a. Agilent
b. Maxtor
c. Nvidia
d. Therion

And the answer is…

D. Therion! Their names might make them sound like masters of mayhem, but 3 out of 4 on this list are simply mild-mannered IT companies. Agilent, Maxtor and Nvidia all make software, but Therion rocks hardcore.

Project: Integrated campaign

Client: The Province of Alberta

Vancouver Convention Centre

vccBuilt over land and water, with floor-to-ceiling glass throughout that treats guests to phenomenal harbour and mountain views, our new West Building is a masterpiece of design, inspiration and sustainability. Our commitment to green technology can be found in every corner: the “living roof,” seawater heating and cooling, on-site water treatment and even fish habitat built into the foundation.

In 2009, the recently-expanded Vancouver Convention Centre opened its doors to the world. I strongly recommend you stop by the next time you’re in Vancouver – it really is an amazing building with an unbeatable view. I was happy to help promote the new facility by writing & editing all of the content for their website.

Is that a bear on your website?

steadyhandThe best part about this project was convincing the CEO of a mutual fund company that we needed to hire a grizzly bear for his website. I’m glad he listened – we got an Applied Arts award for this one.

Plus, everything I know about investing I learned while working on this website. Tom is one seriously smart dude when it comes to managing money.

As part of BC Hydro’s Power Smart initiative, I worked on this helpful little site that teaches you a bunch of things you can do at home to save energy and money. It even tells you how much money you’ll save. Fun project and good for the Earth, too.

Learn how to get rich

bmo_demo

Writerman learned an awful lot about investing while working on this project. With all of that knowledge, you think I’d be rich by now…

It’s an interactive video tutorial that helps teach potential clients how they can use BMO InvestorLine to manage their own money, save for retirement or trade online. I wrote the scripts for all of the videos as well as everything you can read.
